so i get all jimmy stewart and start wondering about the REAL meaning of Cinco de Mayo and come across this on one web site

In America, Cinco de Mayo is taken as an opportunity to celebrate Hispanic culture in general, and is celebrated with huge fairs, which include Mexican singing, dancing, feasting, costumes, sports activities, fireworks, and entertainment.

sheet, not in my america

in my lil corner of the world, today is nothing more than a day to get a good discount on mexican alcohol. the only symbols for Cinco de Mayo all involve some form of malt liquor or tequilla. they might as well call it Free Lime Day.

i do know a few mexican clubs in the area and it doesnt get much better there. mah boys have bounced in latino clubs for years and this is one of those ‘ah sheet, some 130lb mufuckah is gonna drink 2 gallons of tres.equis and try to be more brave than smart’ nights.

i aint much better. ima just google around the net and see if i can pick up a nice kernel of knowledge that i can bust out at the next social gethering so that i can seem all down with la raza and some sheet.

not the most fun posting i’ve put up in a while but i am not very motivated as of late. too much poetry “business” has me down as of late. i am feeling a bit of the burnout. too many emails and not enough workshops make ob a dull dull writer.

ACENTOS BRONX POETRY SHOWCASE MOVES TO THE BRUCKNER BAR & GRILL

The organizers of the Acentos Bronx Poetry Showcase today announced that the acclaimed reading series is moving to a new location. The Bruckner Bar and Grill, located at One Bruckner Boulevard in the Bronx, will be the new home of the series as of Tuesday, May 10, with a show featuring Bronx native and nationally renowned poet and playwright Magdalena Gómez along with Minneapolis spoken word artist Emmanuel Ortiz. Acentos occurs every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m., with a featured poet and a full open mic.

The Bruckner Bar and Grill’s performance area features an understated lighting scheme in a large converted industrial space, complete with brick facades, and couches, all of which is separate from the main lounge and restaurant area. The restaurant itself offers a full-service bar and a solid menu of reasonably-priced American fare, providing a perfect location for a pre- or post-poetry hangout.

The Bruckner Bar & Grill is conveniently located near IRT 6 Train’s 138th St/Third Avenue Station (the first stop in the Bronx) just a quick three block walk down Third Avenue, under the overpass, along the left side of the Third Avenue Bridge, at the corner of Third and Bruckner Boulevard in the heart of Mott Haven’s arts community.

The organizers extend their sincerest thanks to the ownership and staff of the Blue Ox Bar for providing a vital space for poets and artists in the South Bronx over the past two years. This shift in locale is in response to the series’ ongoing popularity and reflects the organizers’ efforts to serve their audience in a more efficient manner.

Acentos remains the vanguard of the burgeoning artistic scene in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, with a reputation as THE gathering spot for Bronx-based poetry aficionados to write, read, perform, and celebrate their art. The series provides a renewed spotlight for Latino/Latina poetry in a venue that fosters an encouraging atmosphere for writers of diverse backgrounds and experience, in a setting that stimulates both open dialogue and an increased sense of community in the culturally resurgent South Bronx.

Future shows at the Bruckner Bar and Grill will highlight HBO Def Poets Flaco Navaja and Lemon; Guggenheim Fellow and author Rigoberto González; finalist for the Poetry Society of America’s Alice Fay di Castagnola Award, Cynthia Cruz; poet/activist/attorney Nina Parrilla and Texas Slam Champion Juan Antonio.

Acentos is a program of the louderARTS Project, Inc., and is presented in conjunction with the Bronx Writers’ Center, a program of the Bronx Council on the Arts. Acentos is brought to you every second and fourth Tuesday of the month by Oscar Bermeo, Jessica Torres, Fish Vargas and Rich Villar. For more information, please visit www.louderarts.com/acentos.

it seems like everyone has a blog these days

recently, the pontiff passed thru and gave my blog his blessing.
all you _____ off my lawn! (ding! the inside joke bell)
holler back at his holiness blog

on the secret tip- i am doin what i do best and may be gettin someone else new on the mic

on the double secret tip- this last weekend, i may have pulled off my biggest power move when it comes to booking a feature. keep your fingers and toes crossed

someone actaully responded back to one of my posts and i am totally speechless. there question is pretty straight forward but i cant seem to verbalize the answer. some poet, huh?

the poem that i was writing on the fly last week is entitled “Four Necessary Elements of Erotic Poetry”

i hate posting poems on the blog. no one ever comments in any meaningful way so why bother. i may start posting stuff on LJ since i can think of at least one person who will throw two cents my way.

in the last four years, i have not written a complete poem withour reciting it on some stage. there are no secret poems.

i wish people would take a chance more often on stage. i am seein too many people play it safe.

by the end of this month, i am goin to want to take a serious break from poetry.

it took me a while to actual call myself a poet without putting 12 disclaimers in front, behind, and around the statement. now, i think i can easily say i am a damn good host. the last few weeks have seen me go on stage under some near guerilla circumstances and come out unfazed

poetry is still the only thing i am good at in this life

the great rubics cube that is female psychology continues to elude me. i can only get one side right as the other five are a jumbled mess

i am working on four new poems right now. my set at spoken words cafe is gonna be ALL new hotness. the worcester set will be a balanced mix of old, new, and who knows what else. the BX1 set will be the poems from spoken words and at least one new piece.

ima be 35 very soon. i party like if i was still 25 and act like im 21. the only thing that could change this would be the scariest undetaking i can think of right now… goin back to school

mark doty is my new hero. he is changing my whole concept of poetry. i am also reading his poems out loud to help me calm down the anxious parts of my voice. i am NOT mimicing his voice though, that is a point less exercise.

i got back in contact with the.one.that.got.away
we may be meeting up for lunch very soon.

meeting up with her always leads to new poems

take a little walk on the darth side

off to do some real 9to5 work

love ya like a hyancith bean
